the listeners
Produced in Chicago, 2005. When Alessandro Bosetti visited Chicago in December 2005, he did so at the request of Lampo, the experimental music venue hosting his performance. But he also came with a mission: in the space of three days, he intended to make, and screen, his very first video. The production itself was simple. For two days before the screening Alessandro
and filmmaker Jesse Seay video taped volunteers, each listening to a different sound work by Alessandro. They listened via headphones, connected to Alessandro's laptop computer. When he pressed play, the volunteer became a listener, immersed in a 2-3 minute audio world of Alessandro’s creation The listeners were the first to hear their respective pieces, and the last: after each volunteer finished, Alessandro permanently erased the work. As a result, each listening became a privileged moment of connection between artist and audience. The finished video is 25 minutes of listeners’ faces, a thoughtful, silent commentary on our relationship with sound.
